WorkCoverSA Annual Conference

9.00am – 5.00pm
Wednesday 5 September 2012
Adelaide Convention Centre

in·te·grate - to bring together or incorporate (parts) into a whole.
in·no·vate - to introduce something new; make changes in anything established.
in·spire - to animate, as an influence, feeling or thought.

This year’s conference, ‘integrate. innovate. inspire!’, combines a stimulating blend of inspirational, informative, and innovative sessions for all involved in the workers’ rehabilitation and compensation field and the broader business community.

Over 500 people attended last year’s conference and the calibre of this year’s keynote speakers will take the 2012 conference to new heights. Our two sets of three concurrent sessions will continue to provide an opportunity for delegates to share experiences, gain knowledge and engage with industry leaders across a range of topics drawn directly from feedback provided by last years conference attendees.

The first keynote session will be presented by Michael Henderson, a corporate anthropologist from New Zealand, who will share his innovative ideas on workplace culture and its importance in cultivating positive return to work attitudes. Drawing on knowledge and experience of over 70 cultures, in 40 countries and the lessons they contain, Michael ensures that the knowledge and information he shares is grounded in the realities of business.

The second keynote address will provide a rarely glimpsed window into the impact of a truly life-changing survival experience. We are privileged to have one of the world’s top inspirational speakers, Nando Parrado, join us to share first-hand the remarkable story of the Uruguay Rugby team whose plane crashed in the Andes in 1972. Their story of courage, resilience, teamwork, determination and leadership, experienced at a level few have known, will leave you with a heightened awareness of the value of human life. Of particular relevance to injured workers is Nando’s explanation of how he coped with people’s altered perception of him as a result of his experience. We are particularly grateful for the generous sponsorship support that enabled us to bring this exceptional speaker to the 2012 WorkCoverSA Annual Conference.

The conference will conclude with an informative and high energy presentation by Bruce Sullivan, one of Australia’s most dynamic and sought-after relationship specialists. Bruce will give insight on identifying your personality type, as well as other people’s personality types. He will provide advice on how to negotiate, manage, work and live with people that may prefer to take in information, arrive at decisions and live in the world differently to you.

Annual Conference 2011

Staying connected

Helping injured workers recover better at work

Presentations included:

Professor Kim Burton, Occupational Health Consultant, KendallBurton Consulting, UK
Recovering better at work - Overcoming the obstacles

Recovering while working is beneficial for people with common health problems, but some find it problematic. Not because they have a more severe illness or injury, but because they face obstacles – biopsychosocial aspects of the person, the workplace and the context that hinder staying at work. Ensuring that all the players can identify and overcome these obstacles is crucial.

Janine Shepherd, Inspirational speaker, NSW
Never tell me never

Janine was a champion cross country skier whose life was irrevocably altered when she was run over by a truck while on a training bike ride for the Winter Olympics. Her parents were told she was not expected to survive and even if she did would never walk again. Janine shares her inspirational story on how determination and encouragement from people around her got her not only back on her feet but also daring to fly!

Amanda Gore, Head2Heart, QLD
Staying connected – Wake up to what really matters at work and home!

Amanda’s session is about changing our perceptions which transforms how we behave and feel. It is full of laughter, interaction, symbols and specific strategies to improve self knowledge and self management. It will transform your thinking and attitude and make you feel good about yourselves, and most importantly, understand how you can help injured workers feel the same way. You will learn to understand the importance of connection in building and managing positive relationships with others you work with, especially injured workers, and discover how to motivate and encourage others in their journey to stay at or return to work.
