GP breakfast seminar - presentation now available
WorkCoverSA recently joined with the Personal Injury Education Foundation to present a breakfast seminar for GP's and health providers featuring Dr Kathryn Mueller, Medical Director for the Colorado Division of Workers' Compensation and also a Professor in the Department of Surgery and the School of Public Health at the University of Colorado. Dr Mueller has done extensive studies into the need for evidence-based guidelines when dealing with people with workplace injuries.
At the breakfast seminar, Dr Mueller stated the overwhelming argument for having evidence-based guidelines is so that more simple injured worker cases remain simple and don't turn into complex and ongoing disability. The goal of evidence-based guidelines is to improve quality, provide consistent care and to achieve better return to work rates. Evidence-based guidelines will also enable practitioners to better understand workplace injuries and recovery, so they can consistently diagnose and treat common workplace injuries in a way that helps people get back to work safely and quickly.
Mental Health First Aid course - 2012
Mental health first aid is the initial help given to a person with a mental health problem or crisis before medical treatment can be obtained. In order to help people provide this initial support, WorkCoverSA is holding a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course. The course is useful for people employed in areas that involve high contact with employees who may have mental health issues.
beyondblue: Managing depression in the workplace
We know from our experience with injured workers that employees who suffer from a workplace injury have a higher tendency to be diagnosed with psychological issues such as depression and anxiety, which can have a significant impact on individuals, their families, the workplace and organisations as a whole. This program will allow you to gain a better understanding of the area of mental health that will enable you to better assist injured workers in this position.
