Worker fraud

WorkCover SA investigates allegations of breaches of legislation, particularly the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1986.

Worker fraud occurs when a worker knowingly lies for the purpose of obtaining workers compensation payments to which he or she is not entitled. An inadvertent or unintentional incorrect statement is not a fraud.

Common examples

Common examples of worker fraud:

  • Claiming for an injury that does not exist.
  • Exaggerating an injury.
  • Claiming for an injury that is not related to employment.
  • Claiming weekly payments whilst continuing to earn from employment.
  • Altering medical certificates to obtain an entitlement.
  • Knowingly providing false information in relation to a claim for compensation.
