The 2009 annual conference aims to create a positive outlook for workers compensation in South Australia, which can be achieved by continuously learning from and embracing successful return to work initiatives and innovations in injury management.

Keynote speakers are:

  • Dr William Shaw, Principal Research Scientist, Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, USA. Dr Shaw's research focuses on improving return to work outcomes for work-related musculoskeletal injuries by combining psychosocial and workplace factors in early treatment planning. Currently, he is investigating risk factors for delayed recovery from occupational low back pain and examining optimal supervisory practices for responding to workplace injuries. Dr Shaw has written and lectured extensively on occupational medicine, return to work and injury rehabilitation. 
  • Dr Richard Pimentel, Expert on injury management, return to work and attitudinal change, Senior Partner Milt Wright & Associates Inc., USA. Dr Pimentel is distinguished by his ability to predict industry trends and the needs of employers. He has designed and implemented return to work systems for the private sector and government employers throughout the US. He has pioneered proactive risk management and return to work programs to generate both cost-savings and enduring attitudinal changes in corporate culture.
