RTW Fund - Overview

The RTW Fund aims to improve the workers’ rehabilitation and compensation system by testing different ways to assist an injured worker to recover at work as well as improving durable return to work arrangements through developing a more cohesive and connected return to work (RTW) system in South Australia.

WorkCover recently reviewed and updated the RTW Fund charter to align its objectives with WorkCover’s strategic goals and direction 2011-16.

The revised objectives of the RTW Fund are to improve outcomes for all injured workers to help them remain at or return to work sooner by:

  • supporting employers and industry to develop and implement solutions that prevent injuries and eliminate or reduce workplace safety risk
  • developing and implementing employer/industry specific solutions to achieve successful and timely outcomes for injured workers and employers
  • finding solutions to barriers to injured workers staying at or returning to work
  • improving the skills of people operating within the South Australian Workers Compensation Scheme
  • expanding training options for injured workers
  • developing greater workforce participation options for injured workers
  • educating people about the importance of the roles of employers and injured workers to achieve the best outcomes.

Evaluation of the RTW Fund projects has been provided independently by the Workplace Innovation and Social Research Centre (WISeR).

WISeR have analysed project outcomes and identified issues for consideration of future claims management services. These will inform policy and legislative changes where required.
